Convert STL to PNG or JPG

Need a picture of a 3D model for a listing, a README, a quote or a chat? Open the STL, turn it to the angle you want, pick a colour and a background, and save a clean PNG with a transparent background or a JPG. The image is drawn in your browser at the size you choose, framed to fit the model.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Add your STL

Drop a binary or ASCII .stl on the box or click to pick it.

  2. 2

    Set the view

Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom, or use the front, side and top buttons. The image uses the angle you see.

  3. 3

    Choose the look

Pick the model colour, smooth or flat shading, the image size and a transparent, white, black or custom background.

  4. 4

    Download the image

Save a PNG (transparent if you chose it) or a smaller JPG.

What to know before you convert

  • The image is a shaded render of the mesh in one colour. Colour data in some binary STLs is not used.
  • JPG has no transparency; a transparent background is saved as white in a JPG.
  • Rendering needs WebGL. Images up to 2048 x 2048 px; very large meshes depend on your graphics memory.
  • One image per click. To make several angles, turn the model and download again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Drop the STL on the box above, turn it to the angle you like, pick a size and background, and click Download PNG. The picture is drawn on your device; the file is not uploaded.
Yes. Keep the PNG format and the Transparent background. Everything except the model is see-through, so the image sits cleanly on any page or slide.
No. The grid is hidden in the saved image and the camera is moved back just enough to fit the whole model, from the same direction you see in the preview.
Yes. Pick a square size such as 1024 x 1024, set a white background or keep it transparent, and upload the image with your model.
No. The page reads the file and converts it inside your browser with the open-source three.js library. Nothing is sent to our servers, there is no account, and no credits are used. Closing the tab discards everything.
