STEP to GLB Converter
STEP is how CAD tools exchange exact solids, but a website, an AR preview or a product configurator needs a mesh such as GLB. This page turns the STEP surfaces into triangles in your browser with the open-source OpenCascade kernel (occt-import-js), keeps every part of an assembly as its own mesh with the colour set in the CAD file, and writes a GLB in metres, Y-up, as glTF expects. Your design never leaves your computer. FreeCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion and other CAD names are used only to describe compatible files; we are not affiliated with their makers.
How to use it
- 1
Drop the .step or .stp
Exports from any CAD program work. The CAD kernel (about 3 MB) downloads the first time, then the file is meshed on your device.
- 2
Pick the detail
Draft, standard, fine or very fine sets how closely the triangles follow curved faces. Finer looks smoother but makes a larger file.
- 3
Check the unit
Metres is chosen because glTF is metres, so the part shows at real size in AR. Pick millimetres to keep the CAD numbers as they are.
- 4
Download the GLB
One file with every part and its colour, ready for a glTF viewer, a model-viewer tag, Blender or a game engine.
What to know before you convert
- A GLB is a mesh: exact curves, features, sketches and the design history are not part of it. Keep the STEP for editing.
- Colours are kept per part. Colours set on single faces are not; such parts use one colour.
- Assemblies are flattened: every part becomes a mesh in place, without the assembly tree or constraints.
- Very large assemblies need a lot of browser memory. Use draft detail if the page runs out of memory.
