Convert glTF to OBJ With Textures

glTF is the standard format of web viewers, game engines and AI 3D generators, but many older tools, CAD importers and render pipelines still ask for Wavefront OBJ. Add the .gltf together with its .bin and texture images (or one ZIP of the folder, or a single .glb) and download an OBJ with its MTL material file and the textures, ready to import.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Add the files

Select the .gltf with its .bin and texture images, drop a ZIP of the folder, or drop a .glb. A .gltf with embedded data works on its own.

  2. 2

    Check the preview

The model is shown with its textures. Missing files are listed by name, so you can add them and try again.

  3. 3

    Pick the scale

glTF is in metres. Keep x1 for Blender, or switch to centimetres or millimetres for tools that expect them.

  4. 4

    Download

Get a ZIP with the OBJ, the MTL and the texture images, or the OBJ alone with geometry and UVs.

What to know before you convert

  • OBJ has no animations, bones or morph targets, so the model is written in its rest pose.
  • Materials become classic OBJ materials: base colour, base colour texture, opacity and normal or emissive maps where the MTL supports them. Metallic and roughness look simpler than in glTF.
  • Draco and meshopt compressed models are decoded and written as plain OBJ geometry.
  • Textures referenced by a web URL, or not among the added files, are left out and listed in a note.
  • Only glTF 2.0 is supported. Each file is limited to 100 MB.

Frequently Asked Questions

Add the .gltf together with its .bin and image files (or a ZIP of the folder) and keep "ZIP: OBJ + MTL + textures" selected. The download contains the OBJ, an MTL that points to the texture files, and the images themselves. Unzip it and import the OBJ.
Both are glTF 2.0. A .gltf is a JSON file that usually points to separate .bin and image files; a .glb packs all of them into one binary file. This converter accepts either.
glTF measures in metres and OBJ has no unit, so a 1.8 m character becomes 1.8 units. Blender reads that as metres and shows it at the right size. For apps that work in centimetres or millimetres, pick the matching scale before downloading.
OBJ can only store a static mesh. The converter writes the model in its rest pose. Keep the glTF or a GLB if you need the animation.
The .gltf names a texture file that was not among the files you added. Add every image from the model folder (or drop the whole folder as a ZIP) and convert again.
No. The page reads the file and converts it inside your browser with the open-source three.js library. Nothing is sent to our servers, there is no account, and no credits are used. Closing the tab discards everything.
