3D Model Compressor

Reduce GLB file size for the web, AR, games and upload limits. This free GLB compressor shrinks textures, compresses geometry with Draco or meshopt and can cut triangles, then shows the 3D model before and after.

How to compress a GLB file

  1. 1

    Add your model

Drop a GLB, a glTF (with its .bin and textures), an OBJ or an FBX. It opens in the 3D viewer and never leaves your browser.

  2. 2

    Pick a preset

Light keeps the geometry as it is, Balanced adds Draco and WebP, Max also halves the triangles. Open Advanced to set each option yourself.

  3. 3

    Compare and download

See the size, triangles and textures before and after, flip between Original and Compressed in 3D, then download the GLB.

What each option does

Texture size
Scales every texture down so its longest side is at most 4096, 2048, 1024 or 512 pixels. Textures already smaller are not enlarged. A 4096 texture holds four times the pixels of a 2048 one, so this is often the biggest saving.
Texture format
WebP gives the smallest images and keeps transparency, but the app that opens the GLB must support WebP textures (EXT_texture_webp). JPEG works everywhere; textures with transparency stay PNG. "Keep" re-saves each texture in its own format. A texture is only replaced when the new image is smaller or lower resolution.
Quality
The WebP / JPEG quality. 85 is hard to tell apart from the original on most textures; lower values save more and start to show blocky artifacts.
Geometry compression
Draco (KHR_draco_mesh_compression) and meshopt (EXT_meshopt_compression) store vertices and triangles in far fewer bytes. The viewer has to decode them, so pick None when the target app does not support them.
Quantize vertices
With no geometry compression, stores positions, normals and UVs as smaller integers (KHR_mesh_quantization). Smaller and still lossless to the eye; Draco and meshopt already include it.
Reduce triangles
Simplifies the mesh with meshoptimizer to a share of its triangles, keeping UV seams and the overall shape. It stops early where cutting more would visibly change the model.
Remove animations
Drops animation clips. Useful for a static product model whose file carries animation data you do not need.

GLB compressor in the browser or on the command line?

This page runs glTF Transform and meshoptimizer, the same open-source libraries behind the gltf-transform and gltfpack command-line tools. Use it when you want to compress a few models without installing anything and check the result in 3D before you download. For batch jobs, build pipelines or KTX2 / Basis textures (which this page does not make), those command-line tools are the better choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is free and needs no account. Everything runs in your browser with glTF Transform, meshoptimizer and Google's Draco encoder, so your model is never uploaded to our server.
Add the GLB, choose Balanced and press Compress. Look at the size split in the result: when textures are most of the file, lowering the texture size (2048 or 1024) and using WebP helps the most; when geometry is most of it, Draco or meshopt and "Reduce triangles" help the most. Compare Original and Compressed in the viewer before you download.
Yes. A single .gltf with embedded data works on its own. If your .gltf points to a separate .bin and texture images, select all of those files together. The compressed result is always one self-contained .glb file.
Both make geometry much smaller. Draco is the older and more widely supported one: three.js, Babylon.js and Blender's glTF importer read it. Meshopt decodes faster and also compresses animation, but fewer apps support it. If you are not sure, use Draco, or None when the file must open everywhere.
The app probably cannot decode Draco or meshopt geometry, or WebP textures. Compress the original again with the Light preset: it uses no geometry compression and saves textures as JPEG/PNG, so any glTF viewer opens it.
OBJ (with its .mtl and textures) and FBX are converted to GLB first and then compressed, so you download a GLB. For STL files for 3D printing, use our Reduce STL File Size tool, which cuts triangles and keeps the file an STL.
