Make a 3D character from a description or a picture

This generator is built for characters: heroes, monsters, mascots, NPCs and tabletop figures. On the Describe tab you only write who the character is. We add the framing that 3D character models need, a full body in an A-pose with the arms slightly away from the body, facing the camera on a plain background, so the result is easier to rig, pose and print. On the From image tab you upload concept art, a drawing or an AI image of your character and the AI builds the full 3D shape, back included.

How to generate a 3D character

  1. 1. Describe it or upload a picture

On Describe, write who the character is: species, outfit, colors and props, for example "a dwarf blacksmith with a braided red beard, leather apron and a big hammer". On From image, upload one clear, full-body picture of a single character.

  2. 2. Pick a style

On Describe, choose Realistic, Stylized / cartoon, Anime, Chibi or Low-poly. We add the pose for you: full body, A-pose, facing the camera, on a plain background, so the model comes out easy to rig.

  3. 3. Generate and check it

Most characters are ready in about 1-3 minutes. Spin the model in the viewer and check the face, hands and back. If something is off, change a few words or the seed and generate again.

  4. 4. Download GLB or STL

GLB keeps the colors and textures, for Blender, Unity, Unreal or the web. STL is shape only, for 3D printing a figure in your slicer.

Tips for better characters

  • One character per prompt or picture. Groups and busy scenes come out as one merged blob.
  • Name the outfit, colors and one or two props. Long lists of small details mostly get lost.
  • For images, use a full-body front or three-quarter view with the whole character in frame.
  • For 3D printing, keep weapons, fingers and hair chunky; very thin parts break when printed small.

3D Character Generator FAQ

Not inside The3DAI. The model comes out as a static mesh with no skeleton. Because it stands in an A-pose, it is easy to rig yourself: upload the FBX or OBJ to Mixamo for automatic rigging and free animations (convert the GLB first with our free GLB to FBX or GLB to OBJ converter), or add an armature in Blender with Rigify and weight paint it.
Describe it when the character only exists in your head; the template keeps the pose and framing right for you. Upload a picture when you already have concept art, a drawing or an AI image of the character: a full-body front view on a plain background gives the best result.
GLB, with colors and textures, which opens in Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot and most 3D viewers. You can also download an STL for 3D printing. STL stores only the shape, so paint the printed figure or print it in one color.
It is a good starting point for prototypes, indie games, NPCs and props. AI meshes are dense and their topology is not hand-made, so for a main character in a production game you will usually reduce the polygon count, clean up the mesh and rig it before use.
Describe uses 15 credits per character and From image uses 20 credits. New accounts get free starter credits, and paid plans add more. Under our Terms of Service you keep the rights to the characters you generate, as long as you have the rights to what you upload or describe.
