PNG to GLB: Turn a Picture into a 3D Model

A PNG is flat, so it has to be given depth. The free mode lifts your picture into a raised shape (great for logos, icons and stickers) or a relief (for photos and art) and saves one GLB file with the picture packed inside. For a full 3D object with a back and sides, use the AI mode.

How to convert a PNG to GLB

  1. 1

    Drop a PNG

A logo or icon with a transparent background works best. JPG and WEBP work too.

  2. 2

    Pick extrude or relief

Extrude cuts out the shape and gives it one height. Relief turns brightness into height.

  3. 3

    Choose the colour

The picture as an embedded texture, vertex colours, or plain grey.

  4. 4

    Download the GLB

Check the 3D preview, then save one .glb file. There are no extra files to keep together.

What you get in the GLB

Top
The picture as an embedded PNG texture, mapped exactly onto the raised shape, or one colour per vertex.
Sides and base
A plain material in the picture's main colour, so the model looks right from any angle.
Size and axes
Real size in metres with Y up, as the glTF standard requires. 80 mm wide in the tool is 0.08 m in the file.
Mesh
A closed shape with outward-facing normals: one mesh with two parts, "top" and "side".

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, but a PNG is a flat picture with no depth, so the converter has to add it. This free tool cuts out the shape (or uses brightness as height), raises it, and saves a standard GLB with the picture embedded as its texture.
Yes. GLB is the binary form of glTF and packs the mesh, material and texture into one file, so there is nothing else to upload or keep next to it. Vertex colour mode stores the colours in the mesh instead of a texture.
Not in the free mode: a single picture does not show the back or sides of an object, so the free tool makes a raised shape. For a full object (a toy, a character, a product), use the AI mode. Our Image to 3D tool builds the whole model on our servers, uses credits and also saves GLB.
Yes. With Extrude and Automatic shape, the transparent parts of a PNG are left empty and the rest becomes solid. For a picture without transparency, pixels darker than the threshold become the shape, or tick Invert for the opposite.
GLB opens in Blender (File > Import > glTF 2.0), Godot, three.js, Babylon.js, model-viewer on web pages and most online 3D viewers. You can check it first in our free glTF viewer.
No. In the free mode the model is built on your device and the GLB is saved straight from your browser. Only the AI mode sends the image to our servers.
The shape is closed, so it can be printed, but most slicers do not open GLB. Use our PNG to STL converter for a print-ready STL in millimetres.
