Convert DAE (Collada) to GLB

Collada (.dae) is what SketchUp, Google Earth, older asset stores and many CAD tools export. A .dae is an XML file that points to separate texture images. GLB packs the mesh, materials and textures into one file that web viewers, AR, Blender and game engines open. This page converts on your device.

How to use it

  1. 1

Add the .dae and its images

Select or drop the .dae together with its texture files (PNG, JPG, TGA, BMP). Images are matched by file name, so folders do not matter.

  2. 2

    Check the preview

The Collada unit and up axis are applied, so a SketchUp model comes in upright and at real size in metres.

  3. 3

    Keep the animation

If the file has animation, it is listed and can be kept or left out.

  4. 4

    Download the GLB

One self-contained file for three.js, model-viewer, Blender, Unity, Unreal or AR.

What to know before you convert

  • Textures are only included if you add the image files together with the .dae. Missing ones are listed by name.
  • Collada materials (Phong, Lambert, Blinn) are converted to PBR, so very shiny or glossy settings come out as an approximate roughness.
  • Lights and cameras in the file are left out. Collada 1.4 and 1.5 are supported; older 1.3 files need re-exporting.
  • Skinned characters and node animations are converted, but morph targets and complex animation setups may not come through.
  • Images the browser cannot decode (PSD, TIFF, DDS) are left out and listed; save them as PNG or JPG first.

Frequently Asked Questions

A .dae does not contain its images, it only names them. If only the .dae is uploaded, the textures are lost. Here you add the images together with the .dae and they are packed into the GLB.
Yes in most cases. Collada files declare their up axis (SketchUp uses Z up) and their unit (SketchUp often uses inches). Both are applied, so the GLB is Y up and in metres as glTF expects. The scale list lets you correct a file with a wrong unit tag.
Export it from SketchUp as Collada (.dae), which also writes a folder of textures. Add the .dae and the images from that folder here.
Node and skeleton animations that three.js reads from the Collada file are written into the GLB. A checkbox lets you leave them out for a static model.
Yes. Convert to GLB here, then use our GLB to USDZ converter for AR Quick Look on iPhone and iPad.
No. The page reads the file and converts it inside your browser with the open-source three.js library. Nothing is sent to our servers, there is no account, and no credits are used. Closing the tab discards everything.
