Convert glTF to FBX

A .gltf usually comes as a folder: the JSON file, a .bin with the geometry and the texture images. Many game engines, animation tools and older pipelines still ask for FBX. Add the .gltf with its files (or one ZIP of the folder, or a .glb) and download a single binary FBX with the meshes, materials and texture images inside, at real size in centimetres. The conversion runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Add the files

Select the .gltf together with its .bin and texture images, drop a ZIP of the folder, or drop a .glb. A .gltf with embedded data works on its own.

  2. 2

    Check the preview

The model is shown with its textures. Files the .gltf names but you did not add are listed by name.

  3. 3

    Keep real size

glTF is in metres and FBX in centimetres, so the default multiplies by 100. Choose x1 only if your tool expects the raw numbers.

  4. 4

    Download the FBX

One binary .fbx (version 7.4) with meshes, materials and images embedded.

What to know before you convert

  • Animations, skeletons and morph targets are not written. Rigged or animated models come out as static meshes in their rest pose.
  • glTF metal-roughness materials become FBX Phong materials: base colour, opacity, emissive, normal and colour textures carry over; roughness becomes shininess, and metalness is dropped.
  • Textures are embedded as PNG or JPG. KTX2/Basis compressed textures cannot be read back as images and are left out, with a note.
  • Only glTF 2.0 is supported. Each file is limited to 100 MB.

Frequently Asked Questions

Add the .gltf with its .bin and image files (or a ZIP of the folder) on the box above, keep the metres to centimetres scale and click Download FBX. The FBX is written in your browser with the textures packed inside.
Yes, unless the .gltf has its data embedded. A .gltf only points to those files by name, so add them together (select several files, or drop a ZIP of the folder). Missing files are listed, so you can add them and try again.
No. This converter writes static meshes. An animated or rigged model is written in its rest pose, which works for props, scenery and models you will rig again in your engine.
It is a binary FBX 7.4 file, the version Blender, Unity and Unreal read by default. We test the output by importing it in Blender.
No. The page reads the file and converts it inside your browser with the open-source three.js library. Nothing is sent to our servers, there is no account, and no credits are used. Closing the tab discards everything.
