How to view a DAE file

  1. 1

Drop the DAE and its textures

Select the .dae and its image files together, or drop a .zip or .kmz of the folder. Textures are matched by file name. Nothing is uploaded.

  2. 2

    Look around

Drag to orbit and scroll to zoom. If the file has animations, pick a clip and play or pause it. Turn on wireframe to see the mesh.

  3. 3

    Check and share

Read the materials, which textures loaded or are missing, triangle count, unit and up axis. Save a PNG, or convert the model to GLB, OBJ or STL.

Frequently Asked Questions

DAE is the file extension of COLLADA, an open XML format for 3D scenes kept by the Khronos Group. One file can hold meshes, materials, skeletons and animations, and many 3D apps such as SketchUp, 3ds Max and Maya export it. Texture images are not inside the .dae; it points to them as separate files.
A .dae only stores the path to each texture image, so the images must come with it. Select the .dae and its images together, or drop a .zip of the whole folder, and the viewer matches them by file name. The texture list shows which files are missing. PSD, TIFF and DDS images cannot be shown by a browser; save them as PNG or JPG.
Yes. Animation clips in the file are listed, and the first one plays when the model opens. Pick another clip, pause it, or choose the rest pose. Skeletal (skinned) animation and moving objects both play. The stats show the number of clips, their length and the bones.
A .kmz file is a zip that holds a .dae model and its textures, so you can drop the .kmz here as it is. A SketchUp .skp file is not Collada; in SketchUp Pro, use File, Export, 3D Model and choose COLLADA (.dae), then open that file here.
No. The .dae and its textures are read and drawn by your own browser, so it works for private models and needs no account. If you choose Texture this model with AI, the model is turned into a GLB and handed to our AI 3D Texturing Studio in the same browser.
