StableProjectorz and a Browser Alternative for AI Texturing

StableProjectorz is a free desktop app that projects Stable Diffusion images onto your 3D model on your own NVIDIA GPU. It is powerful and costs nothing, but it needs a Windows installer, several GB of downloads and a capable graphics card. The3DAI AI 3D Texturing Studio does the same core job, painting your model from several views, in a browser tab, with the AI running on our servers.

What is StableProjectorz?

StableProjectorz is a free desktop app for texturing 3D models with AI. You load a model, generate images with Stable Diffusion from different camera angles, and the app projects those images onto the model and bakes them into a texture that keeps your original UVs.

It runs on your own computer: the installer sets up Python and a Stable Diffusion web UI (Forge), and the ControlNet models it downloads are several GB. Its site asks for an NVIDIA GPU (GTX 1080 or better) and at least 12 GB of RAM. Newer versions also have a 3D mode that makes meshes from a prompt or image. Since January 2026 it is open source under the AGPL-3.0 licence.

How texturing works in StableProjectorz

  1. Install the app and its Stable Diffusion back end, then open an OBJ or FBX model.
  2. Place a camera, type a prompt and generate an image; the app projects it onto the model.
  3. Move the camera and generate more views to cover the other sides, then blend them.
  4. Paint inpaint masks to redo parts that look wrong.
  5. Bake the projections into a texture (up to 4K) and export.

When to pick StableProjectorz

  • You have a strong NVIDIA GPU and want unlimited texturing at no cost.
  • You want deep control: camera placement, your own Stable Diffusion models, LoRAs and ControlNet units.
  • You need to work offline.

When to pick The3DAI

  • You are on a Mac, Linux, a Chromebook, an AMD card or a laptop without a gaming GPU.
  • You do not want to install Python, a web UI and several GB of models first.
  • Your model is an STL or PLY with no UVs: we make UVs for you automatically.
  • You want a result in minutes: upload, type what it should look like, press Auto.

How to texture a 3D model with AI on The3DAI

  1. 1

    Upload your model

Drop a GLB, GLTF, OBJ, FBX, STL or PLY file, or pick a sample. Keep your own UV map, or let the studio make new UVs.

  2. 2

    Describe the texture

Write what the surface should look like, or pick a style or a prompt idea.

  3. 3

    Paint with AI

Auto paints 4, 6 or 8 views. Turn the model to paint any spot again, or brush one part and repaint only that.

  4. 4

    Fix and finish

Heal seams and paint by hand for free, then make normal, roughness, metal and AO maps in your browser.

  5. 5

    Download

Get a textured GLB with its maps, or the texture PNGs to use in Blender, Unity, Unreal or Godot.

Frequently Asked Questions

A free desktop app that textures 3D models by projecting Stable Diffusion images onto them from several camera angles, then bakes the result into a texture that keeps your UVs. It runs on your own NVIDIA GPU.
Its site lists an NVIDIA GPU that can run Stable Diffusion (GTX 1080 or better), a suitable CPU and at least 12 GB of RAM, plus several GB of disk for the ControlNet models it downloads. For AMD cards it points to its Discord.
Not that we found: StableProjectorz is a desktop app you install. If you want the same idea (AI paints your model from several views) without installing anything, The3DAI AI 3D Texturing Studio runs in your browser and the AI runs on our servers.
Yes, in the browser. The3DAI does the AI work on our servers, so your computer only shows the 3D model. StableProjectorz ships a Windows installer and asks for an NVIDIA GPU; for AMD its site points to its Discord.
StableProjectorz is free to download and runs on your own GPU. The3DAI gives new accounts 60 free credits; a full 4-view texture costs 8 credits, so that is 7 full textures. After that, plans start at $4.99 a month.
Yes. An uploaded model keeps its own UV map by default ("Keep my UVs"), so the texture drops back into your pipeline. If parts share UV space (mirrored halves, for example), the studio warns you that they will share paint, and one click on "Make new UVs" gives every part its own. Models with no UVs get new UVs automatically. StableProjectorz also keeps your original UVs.
Our studio paints a colour texture with AI, then "Make PBR maps" builds normal, roughness, metal and ambient-occlusion maps from it, free and in your browser, and puts them in the GLB. They are derived from the colour (a quick approximation, not hand-authored materials). The StableProjectorz site does not list separate PBR map outputs.
