How to convert TGA to PNG

  1. 1

    Add your TGA files

Drop one or many .tga files on the box, or click it to pick them. They are read on your device and never sent to a server.

  2. 2

    Check the previews

Each file shows a preview on a checkerboard, so you can see its transparency, plus its bit depth, compression and size.

  3. 3

    Download PNG or ZIP

Download one PNG, or all files at once as a ZIP. Every PNG comes out upright, whichever corner the TGA starts from.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The TGA reader runs in your browser, so your images stay on your device. There is no queue and no file-count limit beyond your device memory; images up to 16384x16384 pixels open.
Yes. 32-bit TGA alpha is copied exactly into the PNG, and 16-bit TGA files keep their 1-bit alpha. A 32-bit file that says it has no alpha and stores only zeros there is treated as opaque, so it does not turn invisible.
True-colour (15, 16, 24 and 32-bit), greyscale (8-bit, or 16-bit with alpha) and colour-mapped TGA files, each uncompressed or RLE compressed, from any origin corner. Only the very rare Huffman and quadtree variants (types 32 and 33) are not supported.
TGA files can store their rows from the bottom up (the usual case) or from the top down, and a flag in the header says which. Some apps ignore it. This converter reads the flag, so the PNG always has the right way up.
No. PNG is lossless, so the PNG holds exactly the same pixels as the TGA, including alpha. It is usually smaller than an uncompressed TGA too.
